Kitesurf Barranquilla: What makes it so special?
Kitesurfing in Barranquilla is truly exceptional, distinguished not only by its varied spots catering to different skill levels but also by its optimal wind conditions.
The city offers almost six months of reliable winds each year, making it an ideal location for both learning and advanced kitesurfing.
Beginners can enjoy spacious and welcoming spots like Puerto Mocho and Puerto Velero, which are perfect for mastering the basics away from the crowded beaches typical of Cartagena, where the narrower beaches and inconsistent winds can detract from the experience. For those seeking more of a challenge, Salinas del Rey in Santa Verónica offers stronger winds and bigger waves, catering to more experienced kitesurfers looking to push their limits.
Additionally, Barranquilla’s reputation as a top kitesurfing destination is further cemented by its history of hosting prestigious international competitions, including the World Kitesurf Championship.
This combination of excellent wind conditions, diverse kitesurfing environments, and a proven track record of hosting global events truly sets Barranquilla apart as a premier kitesurfing locale in Colombia.

By car:
Definitely is the most safe and comfortable option. The drive from Barranquilla to Puerto Mocho takes about 30 minutes. Take the Avenida Circunvalar and then Calle 110 looking for the access to Las Flores Neighborhood. Once you reach the conjunction next to Supermercado Ara, follow the road straight to Bocas de Ceniza until you find the first beach at your left. Turn left and follow the instructions we sent you to locate the kitesurf school.
By bus:
An Indriver or taxi from Barranquilla to Puerto Mocho will cost about $12-15 USD. The ride should take about 30 minutes. Your challenge here is getting a cab or Indriver to accept to take you to Bocas de Ceniza, as many prefer not to since the road is not paved. You can ask them to leave you at Las Flores entrance where you can get a moto taxi and head your way down to Puerto Mocho.
By taxi:
